FAQ
- Q: New to e-mail etiquette?
- A: Check out our Useful e-Mail Etiquette white paper.
- Q: Are there Computer Workshops available for faculty and staff?
- A: Yes - check out this link - Computer Workshops for Faculty & Staff.
- Q: Where can I get help purchasing a new computer?
- For Appalachian: Your local computer consultant can help determine the best computer for your needs, for the best price. Appalachian State University has guidelines in place for minimum specifications.
- For Home: Suggested computer specifications for personal computers.
- Q: How long will my service request take to fix?
- A: Emergencies will be addressed within 24 hours. Most service requests take two to three days. If you requested lab software installation expect at least a 30-day turnaround. *
- Q: Which files should I backup?
- A: You should always backup your important files. Backup your computer files like Word documents, Powerpoint files, Excel files, bookmarks, and address book to the ASUCFS14 server, also known as the M drive. You should not backup everything on your hard drive. Some files will need to be reinstalled anyway if they are lost. Stick to your documents. You should have your important data in at least two locations.
- Q: Can I use my local e-mail address/contact list in Appalnet?
- A: Yes. You would need to manually import the address/contact list.
- Q: What is the preferred e-mail client?
- A: Mozilla Thunderbird works best with our system(s).
- Q: How do I create an electronic calendar?
- A: We have several calendar systems available. If you wish to share your calendar, or access someone else's, you should use the same system they are using. Otherwise, discuss the best option with your consultant.
Don't forget to check out the documentation available under the university support site.
*New lab software installation mid-semester is not preferred and may take additional time.
